Internships, Fellowships and Opportunities
CISS enriches the experience of its students by connecting them to events, activities and opportunities that enhance their learning and sharpen their professional skills.
Below is an indicative list of the kinds of opportunities available to CISS students:
Internships with the World Food Programme
Current CISS students may apply for internships with the United Nations World Food Programme directly through the Centre. Headquartered in Rome, Italy, WFP's Preparedness Branch provides WFP, the UN system and the humanitarian community with early warning and early impact analysis for the purposes of operational preparedness and response to humanitarian emergencies. Interns will have the opportunity to develop skills in research, analysis, report writing and briefing in the areas of early warning, contingency planning, crisis support and information management.
Internships are awarded on a competitive basis during 2 rounds each year. They are based in Rome and are generally for 6 months (January-June and July-December). Young Strategic Leaders' Congress
The Kokoda Foundation is holds twice yearly Young Strategic Leaders' Congresses to foster networking and professional development opportunities for students and young professionals in the security sphere. CISS encourages its students to attend and offers a limited number of scholarships to facilitate their participation.
Dual degree program with the Elliott School of International Affairs, George Washington University
The University of Sydney and the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University in Washington, DC run a dual-degree masters program. CISS students who enrol in the program first complete the requirements for their MIntSec degree and then travel to Washington, DC to complete one additional year of coursework at the Elliott School. Upon fulfilment of both sets of degree requirements, students are awarded two masters' degrees: a Master of International Security (MIntSec) from the University of Sydney and a Master in International Studies (MIS) from the Elliott School.
